Cruise into Downtown Gilroy for Cool Cars, Food, Music and More!
At the Garlic City Car Show on Saturday, August 19th (from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm), up to 200 classic cars, muscle cars, antique tractors, big rig trucks, hot rods, and other vehicles will be on display along Monterey Street in downtown Gilroy.
Along with the cars, there will be plenty to do for all who attend. Delicious food, beer, wine, sodas and water will be available for purchase throughout the day. Local bands will be playing at three different stages including Stream, Wredhorse, Red Glare, Miko’s Mon’Taj and local favorite Jeff and Juli Strametz to name a few. And what car show would be complete without an appearance by Elvis? Gilroy’s very own Donald “Elvis” Prieto will be performing at the 5th Street stage.
The Family Zone, located next to the Gilroy Arts Alliance at Monterey and 7th Street, offers a petting zoo, bounce houses, pony rides, face painting, and karaoke for kids. Kids will have a chance to climb on board and explore some big trucks on display from Bracco’s Towing and Noah Concrete.
Following the car show, David Jenkins (former lead singer for Pablo Cruise) will be performing a concert at the District Theater in Downtown Gilroy. Joining David is singer and songwriter Jaime Kyle. Jamie has written songs for numerous artists, including Faith Hill and Heart. Walter Egan, who had the 1970s hit “Magnet and Steel,” will also be joining David and Jamie for the evening performance. Tickets for the concert range from $25 - $100. VIP tickets for $100 include dinner with the artists, meet and greet, photo op, and reserved seating at the concert (limited to 100 people). Interested in simply meeting the artists and enjoying the concert? The cost is $40. If you just want to attend the concert, you can purchase a ticket for $25. Seating is limited. On Friday evening before the Car Show (August 18) there will be a “Parade of Cars.” This event is hosted by the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce in addition to the Car Show. Monterey Street will be shut down between 4th and 6th Streets) to let the cars cruise through Downtown from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. Stay downtown to enjoy live music at Fifth Street Live, the food trucks from Moveable Feast, and the Downtown Gilroy Spice of Life Certified Farmers Market.
