Gilroy Celebrates Tourism – and You’re Invited!
The party is just getting started here in Gilroy, California!
To celebrate the positive impact of travel and tourism, the Gilroy Welcome Center is hosting an Open House on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. This special event is part of the 34th annual National Travel and Tourism Week and Visit California Tourism Month, which unite communities across California and the U.S. to celebrate what travel means to American jobs, economic growth, and personal well-being.
The May 10 “Celebrate Tourism” Open House will be held at the Gilroy Welcome Center, located at Gilroy Premium Outlets Building A (near Forever 21) at 8155-6 Arroyo Circle in Gilroy. The featured speaker will be Visit California Commissioner Gene Zanger, co-owner of Casa de Fruta Orchard Resort.
Appetizers will be served, along with wine from Gilroy’s own Solis Winery. “Gil” and “Roy,” the garlic bulb mascots of Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park, will be there for photos. Attendees will also receive a free Gilroy goodie bag (while supplies last).
Travel supports one in nine American jobs and is a critical part of Gilroy’s economy. We welcome visitors from around the world to the Gilroy Garlic Festival, Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park, Gilroy Premium Outlets, and our many outstanding local wineries and restaurants. All of those tourist dollars help to support vital city services and economic growth.
That’s why we’re so excited to celebrate with the community at our Open House!
According to the U.S. Travel Association, direct spending on leisure travel by domestic and international travelers totaled $650.8 billion in 2015, generating $99.6 billion in tax revenue and an estimated $2.1 trillion in economic output.
Travel and tourism has a major impact on California’s state economy as well. According to Visit California, California had over 268.6 million visitors in 2016, with an estimated $125.9 billion in travel and tourism expenditures $125.9 billion supporting nearly 1.1 million California jobs and generating $10.3 billion in state and local tax revenues.
Hope to see you at our Tourism Celebration on May 10!
